On 1/10/2011, the FDIC issued a special alert warning consumers about an email that has the appearance of being from the FDIC. The email refers to FDIC insurance being suspended, and it includes a link to a page that requests personal data.
The email and associated Web site are fraudulent. If you receive such an email, do not click through the link in the message, and do not provide any personal information. For additional details about the alert, visit http://www.fdic.gov/consumers/consumer/alerts/index.html.
